The Toyota “peace of mind” Care program advertised in the Idaho Statesman by a local dealership points to the importance of car maintenance. That’s a good thing! The program has some benefits for new car buyers but it is clearly a program to increase sales in service departments by retaining customers who flee dealerships after vehicles are out of warranty.

Free oil changes, tire rotations and roadside assistance are nice benefits for new buyers. The 19 point inspection of items which are covered by the vehicles warranty could be considered a little like using “smoke and mirrors”. If one of the 19 items inspected fails, the repair would be covered by warranty so there would not be a savings for the car owner. Thus the appearance of smoke!

Toyota owners usually are committed to keeping their car maintenance up to date. This program makes it less expensive and more convenient if you live or work close to the dealership. There is a reference to “participating dealers” in a footnote that describes the program, so all dealerships may not be on this program. Toyota owners probably remember that dealership service is not required to keep their new car warranty intact.

Local Auto Repair Shop Confidence

Independent auto repair shops are very capable of maintaining Toyota cars and trucks, as well as all other makes and models. Working very closely with a neighborhood auto repair shop frequently gives the customers a sense of security because the commnuication process in a small shop makes the perceived distance between the car owner and the mechanic seem smaller, as compared to a new car dealership.

Most car owners are already having their existing cars serviced at their chosen auto repair shop. When a new vehicle is purchased the owner may go to the dealership for a while to get maintenance services. But because of the perception that dealerships are more expensive or less convenient, most owners return to the local auto shop for needed maintenance.

We at Auto Doctor of Boise are committed to providing automotive repair and maintenance services for your cars and trucks. When it comes to maintenance services it makes no difference to us if your vehicle is under warranty or not. You will always get great service with quality parts and very clear communication! We guarantee all our work and our commitment to integrity backs up our guarantee.

Call us today at (208) 338-7466 or email us with a question or to make an appointment.

Ford car and truck customers who are keeping their existing vehicles rather than buying new ones just got a warranty boost if they plan to have Auto Doctor of Boise install a remanufactured engine or transmission.

If you are a fleet owner this change to an unlimited mileage warranty is an especially sweet extension. What was a 100,000 mile warranty just changed to unlimited miles.

Private Ford car and truck owners will also benefit from this unlimited waranty by having a quality Ford Motor Co. engine or transmission installed if they put on more miles than the average driver.

Benefits to the End User

Having a National Warranty on any major repair gives great security and protection on their investment. If there is a manufacture defect you can go to a Ford dealership to have repairs made under warranty.

You can have your personal mechanic who you know and trust install the component so you know it is done correctly and at a fair price.

Ford’s warranty trumps many other remanufactured engine and transmission warranties available from other rebuilders and remanufactures.

Unlimited mileage on the warranty takes away the fear of going over on miles before the three years have expired. If you are a fleet owner or a travler who puts more than average miles on your car or truck every month this is a great enhancement.

If your are a diesel truck owner your warranty has not changed with this increase because Ford remanufactured diesel engines still have the unlimited mile warranty. But the unlimited transmission warranty may fit your situation very well should the need arise.

As you can see there are great reasons to use OEM remanufactured engines and transmissions. Many of the same benefits hold true even if you drive a General Motors, Toyota, Honda, Jeep, Dodge or Chrysler car or truck. The warranties are all good and the products are also very good quality.

Most importantly having Auto Doctor of Boise do the installation and provide your ongoing maintenance will assure long life and limited breaddowns.

The Idaho Statesman newspaper article in the October 14, 2010 issue pointed out good information in regard to the Environmental Protection Agency’s recent decision to allow gas stations to sell fuel with more ethanol than was previously allowed.

The article rightly stated the EPA’s warning about which vehicles can use this E15 fuel which contains 15 percent ethanol along with 85 percent gasoline. For now only cars, light and medium duty trucks that were manufactured in 2007 or later are recommended to use this fuel. There is a list of vehicles that should not use this ethanol mix listed on the <a href="http://www.epa.gov/otaq/regs/fuels/additive/e15/#no-use"target="_blank">EPA website.

Be sure to watch for more updates on this fuel change and become more careful when buying fuel to look for signs that indicate which cars and trucks are approved for the fuel the station is selling.

The EPA is still researching and testing older vehicles so there will be more information to come. The concern for you is that this fuel can damage parts of your cars fuel system if it is not approved for your vehicle.
